Today Lena had her first taste of sweet potatoes... I'm not quite sure what she thought of them, but I think the texture threw her off a little. It wasn't as thin as we've been making the rice cereal. She is getting better at taking the spoon, now she just has to work on getting the food to the back of her mouth. She seems to not quite get how the tongue part works yet. :) And with how thin the rice cereal was, it just kind of slid back without her having to really do anything.
As for mommy, making our own baby food was really easy. We baked the sweet potato in the oven, cut it open, scooped it out of the skin, pureed it with the hand stick mixer, and then stuck it into an ice cube tray in the freezer. From one sweet potato (albeit a bit of a big one), we had a serving for today and a full ice cube tray. So probably enough servings for about a month - all with only about 30 minutes of actual work (not including the hour we baked it in the oven).
Next on our list to try is pears or apples. We'll see which look yummier at the store. :)
Oh and the breastfeeding is still going great - 10 weeks back at work and no supply problems yet! I know we will definitely make our short goal of 6 months and am feeling really confident about making it one whole year. :) It makes me feel great to know I can provide for my little girl the best food there is for her.
